Women of Rollins Club

Fellow Montana Voters and Candidates:

My memories of the gatherings at Rollins are all good, and I wish I could be with you tonight. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to justify the trip from Helena, and still honor my commitment to not accept or spend funds in support of my candidacy.

There are two ways to learn about my background and positions on today's issues. Google: John Driscoll for Congress, a free website we have been able to erect, or tune in to the Congressional Debate from Saturday, October 4. The broadcast on public and private stations in upcoming weeks, will be courtesy of the Montana AP Broadcasters.

I am seeking and will appreciate your vote. I offer to serve as a message from Montana to Washington that its time to return credibility and deliberative vitality to the Congressional Branch of our nation's government.

For me this Friday's bailout vote was far more than whether or not our financial system can be rescued. This vote was another instance of the Executive Branch overwhelming the deliberative processes of the Legislative Branch. Add the bailout to previous hasty decisions that have given us the Department of Homeland Security, the Patriot Act, warrant-less wiretapping, Real ID, failure to periodically review the Iraq Occupation budget, and the Economic Stimulus package that gave us money to give to the Chinese.

In my view this past Friday's vote on the "Bailout" may have been the final nail in the coffin of our Congress as a separate and equal branch of our government. The chance to say "stop stampeding Congress" to the Executive Branch was far more important to our country than my election. For that reason I did what I could to encourage and support Congressperson Rehberg's vote against the bailout. Though I do not endorse my opponent, I am thankful that he voted "no," and will vote for him as I promised.

If our government is no longer sound, there is no hope of maintaining a sound financial system, reducing our debt while balancing our budgets, or executing a military strategy driven by a non-carbon energy policy.

If you want to send a serious message from Montana, then I'm serious about delivering it.

Very Respectfully,

John Driscoll
